January 2017 was quite a rocky month for me. I said farewell to a corporate job with a company I had been with for nearly a decade. I had no plans. Very unlike me and my Type A tendencies. A little over a week later, I said hello to a new gig blogging for Silhouette America, a company whose product (CAMEO) that I have used religiously for over four years.
Unsure what to expect as a Silhouette Design Team Member, I was pleasantly surprised with an invitation to their annual Summit in May where I met many friendly, inspiring creatives, including a handful of other Design Team members. Soon after returning home, I wrote my first post for Silhouette’s blog. Quite fittingly, it was a roundup of treats and how to dress them up! 😋
My term with Silhouette has (unexpectedly) ended but it was truly fun while it lasted. I have written seven posts for their blog and honestly, each project has pushed me, either in creative design or trying out new materials I would normally not buy. Click here to read my bio and links to my posts. It’s hard to pick a favorite post because they are so unique! I do have to say getting my hands on the PixScanTM mat has been a big game changer!
Through this journey, I have gained crafting confidence, wonderful friendships with other makers, and a rhythm of creativity that was lacking in the past. I am such a happier person when I’m in my crafting space. While I wish I could keep blogging for Silhouette, I am so glad I can still share my projects and tutorials here on my blog. It’s all right here folks!! 😊
Just a couple months ago, Silhouette released some new, exciting products and I got my crafty hands on a sample set of the metallic temporary tattoo paper! While at the Silhouette Summit, I got to try it firsthand and was quite impressed with how long it lasted on my arm. It took a couple days of good scrubbing before it came off. Since I already tried it as a temporary tattoo, I wanted to try something different with this product for my blog post on the Silhouette America blog. What to make with metallic temporary tattoo paper??
Well, this summer heat has me beyond ready for fall decorations so I came up with a neatway to decorate craft pumpkins. Swing by the Silhouette blog for my tutorial and you can make these spooktacular pumpkins for your own home!
One of the reasons I decided to join the Silhouette Design Team was to push myself to try new projects and techniques. Well…a couple weeks ago, I got the opportunity to play around with Silhouette’s PixScanTM mat, which is a must-have for any paper crafters out there. It is similar to a cutting mat in that you can place paper on it and use it to cut with your Silhouette machine. The coolest part is the incorporation of technology to make precision cuts! You simply upload a photo (taken by smartphone, camera, or scanner), bring the image into Silhouette Studio and it magically appears in your Silhouette Studio design program. From there, you can see where exactly your paper is placed and place your cut designs accordingly. I can’t believe I didn’t use this earlier!
To see how I used the PixScanTM mat, check out my blog post at Silhouette’s blog! 🙂
School is just around the corner and I’ve got another great craft project to excite your kiddos about starting or returning to school…you know, the obligatory “first day of school” sign! This project created for Silhouette’s Blog is especially unique because it features Silhouette’s chalkboard vinyl. There are several GOOD reasons I chose this method versus using a standard chalkboard. Let’s break it down:
- Unless you’re an expert chalkboard artist, you will be spending a lot of time fitting your words, perfecting the look, erasing, starting lines over, etc.
- You can use chalk markers (I highly recommend Marvy Uchida Chalk Markers) for crisp white or colored lettering that makes your board look professional!
- The chalkboard vinyl is reusable so you can use the same chalkboard for many years to come and for multiple kids!
So you wanna make one now right? Click here to read the tutorial!
#sorrynotsorry for the cheesy blog post title..I just can’t help myself sometimes! A good laugh is good for the soul…we are way too busy and stressed these days! I’m definitely guilty of that. I just read online that in the 1950s, people used to laugh an average of 18 minutes a day. Today, that has dwindled to 4-6 minutes a day. Yikes! So take a moment today and do something that makes you laugh!
Okay, I totally digressed…so back to today’s post! Stars! Raise your hands if you used to stare so long into the night sky until your neck hurts? Raise your hands higher if you had glow-in-the-dark stickers on your bedroom walls and ceiling! How about combining the two and making something super awesome?! Swing by Silhouette’s blog to read my tutorial on making Glow-in-the-Dark Constellation Cards. Not only is this an incredibly simple craft you can make with your kiddos, this is a great activity to spend the summer nights together as a family!
How was everyone’s 4th of July? We had a fun-filled day starting with a morning play date followed by chowing down some fried chicken sandwiches and schmaltz fries at the Crack Shack. And as if that wasn’t enough food, we moved onto the next feast of super-delish Korean BBQ buffet and ended the day with gooey chocolatey s’mores. My pants might have felt a little tight this morning… #noregrets
Anywaaaays, let’s talk about the new Wonder Woman movie. Have you seen it? It is SO good! SO good that some of the Silhouette Design Team Members worked on some extra projects to celebrate our new BFF, Diana Prince…aka Wonder Woman. After seeing the movie, I had a gut feeling that many little girl birthday parties would soon become Wonder-Woman themed so if that’s you or you know some mama who is wondering where to start to pull together a wonder-filled party…look no more! I have put together a tutorial on how to create simple yet eye-catching Wonder Woman party decor, from cupcake toppers to water bottle labels!

Happy almost Independence Day! What are you guys doing this weekend to celebrate? Anyone taking Monday off? It seems a little odd to go to work one day and have the next day off and then back to work for the rest of the week. I say Monday should be a holiday too! Who’s with me?? 🙂
While I had been a little MIA for the month of June (I’ll explain why in a later post), I did get a chance to create some awesome patriotic home decor for my post on Silhouette’s blog. I started with the paper method (because I just LOVE working with paper!) and pushed myself to try something new…I mean, that’s the whole point of this creative journey, right? For the first time, I used Silhouette’s Stencil Material to create the painted look and I absolutely LOVE the results! I can totally foresee more farmhouse-style signs in my craft queue this year!
If you want to learn how to make your own barn quilt blocks, check out my post on Silhouette’s blog. Have a safe and fun 4th of July friends!
Oh friends, apologies for the lack of posts lately. I am D-E-E-P in the trenches with two big community events I’m helping put together. Both events take place this week so I’ll be back to my regular blogramming next week…hmm, maybe the week after that. I might need more time to recover! #gettingold
Amidst the craziness, I completely forgot to inform y’all that my first blog post for Silhouette went up last weekend! It’s a roundup post of fun ways to dress up sweet treats. Desserts are right up my alley (my dentist would agree) and it covers all the different ways you can use the Silhouette cutting machine and the Mint machine.
Here’s the link to the post.
Hope you are having a great Monday! Be back in about a week or so. If you don’t hear from me, I’m probably asleep and snoring on the couch! 🙂
