I think if there was a holiday I wish I knew more about, it would St. Patrick’s Day. I admit, all I know is to wear green…but why? Even as an adult, I still make it a point to wear something green, even if it’s socks. How do you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?
Well, in addition to reading up more about the holiday, I thought I could add some festive decorations as we seriously have none. Zero, zilch, nada!
As part of a SVG Design Squad, I am sharing a “Home Sweet Home” St. Patrick’s themed sign using my free SVG file for this month!
Here’s how you can make your own wooden sign:
- Silhouette CAMEO (link)
- 12in x 12in Cutting Mat (link)
- Blank wooden sign
- Scraper tool or something with a strong flat edge (ie, gift card)
- Adhesive vinyl in black and green
- Transfer tape (link)
- Weeding tool (link)
- Home Sweet Home SVG file
Step 1:
Download the Home Sweet Home SVG file and import the file into your Silhouette Library.
Step 2:
In Silhouette Studio, resize the file to fit your wood sign space. Right-click on the design and ungroup.
Step 3:
Click on the shamrocks and the word “sweet” and group together. Next, group all the other letters (the ones in black) together. Move the green grouped elements off the Silhouette Studio design space. NOTE: Silhouette will only cut what is shown on the actual design space.
Step 4:
Place your black adhesive vinyl on your cutting mat. Depending on your machine and preference, you may not need the cutting mat. I prefer to cut with the cutting mat. Send to Silhouette using proper cut settings. Once cut, unload and begin weeding the unwanted pieces. Place a layer of transfer tape over the weeded design. Use the scraper tool to burnish (aka “transfer”) the design onto the clear transfer tape/sheet.
Step 5:
Repeat Step 4 for the green elements using green adhesive vinyl. Be sure to move the black design elements off the design space and only keep the green design elements on the design space.
Step 6:
It’s time to assemble. Starting with the black vinyl sheet, set it gently centered on the blank wooden sign. Burnish with scraper tool to adhere the adhesive to the sign. Slowly peel away the clear sheet so that the vinyl adheres to the wooden sign.
Step 7:
Repeat step 6 with the weeded green vinyl sheet. You can press down on the vinyl to make sure vinyl has made full contact on the sign and that any bubbles are deflated.
This festive SVG could even work on throw pillows or on the ends of a table runner. Consider yourself lucky with all the crafting possibilities! ☘️
