St. Patrick’s Day is coming and I’ve been thinking of simple and cute DIY projects to make. Last month, I made a really cool cutout red envelope for Lunar New Year and had a ton of leftover gold chocolate coins. If there are sweets in the house, I’m in trouble. I have a super sweet tooth! So how can I make use of these shiny coins?

Inspired by the lattice appearance of the red envelope, I created a SVG file that I’m sharing today as one of my many FREEBIES. It’s a fillable paper pot of gold! The kids and I are planning on making several of these pots and dropping them off at friends’ doorsteps like sneaky leprechauns! 🍀

Here’s the supply list of materials used to make this craft:

  • Black cardstock
  • Green cardstock
  • Crafting glue (link to my favorite)
  • Chocolate coins (link if you can’t find them locally or Party City sells them for $10 for 72 coins and they come in a variety of colors)
  • Cutting machine like Silhouette or Cricut OR you can make a simplified version with good ol’ scissors

There are essentially three pieces to the paper treasure pot:

  • One top and one bottom layer to be cut using the black cardstock
  • One slightly smaller layer cut from green cardstock (or any color of your choice, try patterned paper!).

Follow these quick steps to assemble:

Step 1 – Glue the green smaller pot cutout on top of the back black pot cutout.

Step 2 – Squeeze a line of glue along the inside perimeter of the top black cutout. Be sure not to put glue on the top edge of the pot cutout so that you can insert the chocolate coins.

Step 3 – Firm press the top layer to the green+bottom layer.

Step 4 – Insert chocolate coins into the fillable paper pot of gold!

This might be one of the easiest craft projects to date! It’s a great one for little kids. Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!
