The #SVGDesignSquad is halfway through 2021 and it has been so fun creating free SVG files for all you crafty people. For the second half of the year, I’ve decided to do something extra fun, cute, and mini. We’re going to have a craft party and make mini piñatas each month for the rest of the year!
Next month, my youngest will join her older brother at school so we are definitely going to celebrate this special milestone! Pretty sure I’ll be a hot mess come her first day of school!
To make this pencil mini piñata, you will need the following items:
- Silhouette CAMEO (link) or Cricut
- Cutting Mat
- Colored cardstock (I suggest using color that matches the primary color of your piñata. For this project, I used yellow and black)
- Paper slicer (optional)
- Scissors
- 10″ of string
- Light-weighted goodies (think temporary tattoos, stickers, mini erasers)
- Papercrafting glue (link)
- Yellow, black, beige, and pink crepe streamer (link to set of 24 colors)
- Pencil Mini Piñata SVG file
Step 1:
Download the Pencil Mini Piñata SVG cut file and import the file into your Silhouette Library.
Step 2:
Move the face pieces off to the side (aka, not on the design space). We will first cut out the 3D pencil shape. Place your primary colored cardstock on your cutting mat. Send your project to cut with your cutting machine using the proper cut settings. When using cardstock, I like to check the “Double Cut” option. Once cut, remove from cutting mat.
Step 3:
Next, move the 3D pencil shape off to the side and bring back the face pieces. Place black cardstock on your cutting mat. Send your project to cut with your cutting machine using the proper cut settings. Once cut, remove from cutting mat.
Step 4:
Crease along the perforated lines. Run the adhesive along the “fold” flaps and begin building your 3D pencil. Press firmly to make sure the flaps are secure. WAIT to secure the lid (where the eraser is).
Step 5:
Time to make the hanging piece. Thread the string through the tiny hole on the lid so that the two open ends are “under” the lid and the looped end is on the “outer” side of the lid. Make a giant knot on the two open ends so that the knot cannot pass through the tiny hole on the lid.
Step 6:
Fill the piñata with light-weighted goodies (or leave it empty) and finish constructing the 3D pencil shape by securing the lid with adhesive.
Step 7:
Cut strips of crepe paper that are long enough to wrap around the 3D pencil shape. For each strip, cut/create a fringe with scissors.
Step 8:
Using adhesive and starting at the tip of the pencil, secure the fringed strips onto the 3D pencil. Continue layering strips of fringed strips to create the piñata appearance.
Step 9:
Once you have completed the fringed layers, cut a strip of silver cardstock and glue it between the pink and yellow fringe layers.
Step 10:
Add the face pieces using adhesive. Let the entire mini piñata fully dry before handling it
Hope everyone’s back to school goes well! Love my kids to pieces but also very excited that they’ll be in school all day again! It’s been a long year and a half! 📚🍎✏️🖍️

Thank you, this is so cute! My boys are going to have a nerf party and I think I could use the template to make a nerf bullet pinata. Thanks for the inspiration and svg 🙂
