Two things I love…a good play on words and making temporary tattoos! And for today’s post, I am doing both! Temporary tattoos are great for any occasion liked by both adults and kids! A few years ago, I made a little temporary tattoo station at my friend’s baby shower and everyone had fun with the interactive activity!

To make your own temporary tattoos, here’s what you need:

Step 1:

Download the Love Your Mother SVG file and import the file into your Silhouette Library.

Step 2:

In Silhouette Studio, resize the design to your preference. For reference, I made mine about 1.5” wide.

Step 3:

Create a 0.05″ offset from the Offset window. You will see red outlines like the image below. Once you click “Apply,” you should only see a red heart and two small circles just outside of the heart shape. Delete the two circles. Also, make sure the line weight of the red heart is set to 0. I accidentally missed this step and the red outline printed.

Step 4:

Group the design and offset. Then duplicate this grouping multiple times until it fills the entire sheet. Remember to stay within the registration marks.

Step 5:

Mirror your design so the image is reverse. Double-check that only the offset heart is set to cut.

Step 6:

Turn on registration marks. Load the clear temporary tattoo paper into your inkjet printer and print on the glossy side of the paper. Once the ink is dried, remove the thin green backing strip from the edge of the adhesive sheet and aligned the edge of the adhesive sheet with the edge of the printed side of the tattoo paper and press it into place. Next, slowly remove the rest of the green backing as you smooth the adhesive sheet over the tattoo paper. A scraper tool or the flat edge of a credit/gift card would also work.

Step 7:

Now that we have printed the tattoos, it’s time to cut them out. Place the tattoo paper on your cutting mat and load it into your Silhouette machine and send to Silhouette with correct settings. TIP: I recommend setting Silhouette to “double cut”.

Step 8:

Peel off the clear backing on the tattoo to expose the adhesive. Apply a damp cloth on top for several seconds. When the paper backing begins to slide off of the tattoo, you can remove the clear backing.

These printable temporary last for 1-3 days depending on water contact and the sticky residue is best removed by it rubbing a wet washcloth. Thankfully these temporary tattoos are so easy to make that you’ll be making them again and again and again! 🌎
