We celebrated our sweet and sassy Zoe’s 3rd birthday last weekend! Normally I wouldn’t pick a character or popular theme but there really was no better option. Our girl lives and breathes Peppa Pig. Sometimes I catch her saying British phrases, like “ready, steady, go!” and it’s so dang cute!
With a birthday in quite possibly the busiest month of the year, we kept the party simple and held it at home. We invited Zoe’s gal pals to come play some Peppa-themed games, decorate their own gingerbread houses, and of course eat cupcakes!
I had probably the most fun decorating for this party of all the ones I’ve done so far. Many thanks to Pinterest!
I kept most of the decorations centralized on the kids’ table, which I rented along with the white wooden kids’ chairs. It cost me no more than $20 and really transformed the space into a little girl’s wonderland. I ordered this pink linen tablecloth which fit perfectly on the kids’ table with a nice overhang length.
The rain boot centerpieces were created by spraypainting ceramic boots (originally sage green) with Rustoleum’s Painter’s Touch spray paint in Berry Pink. One good coat and that was it! I didn’t even sand it…just sprayed directly on the boots! I’m especially stoked about these centerpieces because I found these $3 boots in the dollar section at Target. What a score, right? Then, I simply added two bundles of yellow and light pink flowers! And to keep with the Peppa Pig party theme, I cut two pieces of brown craft felt to look like “muddy puddles”!
The night before the party, each gingerbread house was hot glued together (crafter pro tip!!) and I piped the icing over to conceal the glue. Gotta love sneaky time-saving tricks! You can thank me later! 😉
The “flooring” base piece is actually a 10×14 cake board wrapped with wrapping paper. I personally think the one provided in the gingerbread house kit is too small and doesn’t help contain the messiness of this activity. I tagged each board with the guest’s name so that it kind of worked like a place card. The tags were made using Silhouette’s Print & Cut feature.
The candies were poured into paint trays for easy organization and a fun way to display pops of color on the table. I found that candy canes fit plastic shot glasses the best.
The party was mid-afternoon so snacks were light. I have found that fresh cut up fruit, string cheese, and goldfish are crowd favorites for toddlers. My husband is an expert at making “Pigs in a Blanket,” which I thought would be punny to include in the spread.
Using my Silhouette CAMEO, I re-created Peppa’s house with cardstock and markers. It was a simple way to pull in the Peppa Pig theme over to the food/drink space.
Another super easy DIY was adding pig ears to the pink plates. Again, I used my Silhouette CAMEO to cut out individual ear pieces from light pink cardstock. You can also cut these ears out by hand but if you’ve got a diecutting machine like the CAMEO, it’s waaaaay faster and consistent than manually cutting it. Other supplies used were scotch tape to tape to the back of the plate and Tombow’s Mono Multi Liquid Glue (you HAVE to have this in your craft toolbox!) to glue the front of the ear to the back of the plate.
My Silhouette CAMEO came in handy for other elements of the party, such as the birthday banner, cake toppers (see below the one I made for this party), supersized Peppa Pig wall decor, and even personalizing toddler aprons that served as party favors. If you throw a lot of parties and love doing them, I think the CAMEO is a great investment and therefore not expensive. I wrote a blog post about it here.
The two games we played were Pass the Parcel (inspired by one of the episodes called Edmond Elephant’s Birthday Party) and Give the Cake to Peppa (a spin-off of Pin the Tail on the Donkey).
Pass the Parcel was a hit! I wasn’t sure what to expect with a room full of 2- and 3-year-olds but the girls were gentle and loved the game! There were seven girls at the party so I wrapped seven fun-size playdoh, one under each layer of wrapping paper. You can wrap anything that is small, even a treat like a lollipop. Similar to musical chairs, I played some music and the girls passed the parcel around in a circle. When the music stopped, whoever had the parcel in their hands gets to unwrap it. Obviously, you will want to stop the music on a child who hasn’t gotten the gift/treat. Pro tip: I suggest using 2-3 different wrapping papers so you can make sure the girls don’t unwrap beyond the current layer.
Give Peppa Her Cake is great for 2-8 partygoers. I had crafty ambitions to make my own poster and game pieces but then saw that something similar was already made and available on Amazon. Some DIYs are just not worth it! This mama’s time is precious and my own version would have cost more!
If you’ve got a Peppa Pig fan at home, this is a party theme worth considering! I honestly had a lot of fun prepping this celebration! You can find many premade Peppa-themed party goods at Target or your local party store and/or you can add your own decorative DIY pieces.
Happy 3rd birthday to you Zoe! *oink oink*
