If you know me, you know I love coming up with great party themes and reasons for a get-together. Never in my life did I think I would throw together a celebration about a cast coming off! You guys, it’s been a LONG. SIX. WEEKS. 😩

Looking back though, I realize the annoying experience of my son’s broken arm had many silver linings.

We said goodbye to fall’s soccer season (Go Sharks!) and hello to more family time together with our Saturdays free of any activity/sport commitment.

Ethan said goodbye to any sort of active play and hello to sitting down on the piano bench and becoming quite the right-handed piano rockstar!

We are so proud of our boy for making the best of the situation. This super active boy was not allowed to run, jump, go on play structures, or be anywhere near balls or wheels. So hard for this always-on-the-go six-year-old!

This cast-coming-off party was both a celebration and a way to say “thank you” to his closest pals who have helped him over the past month and a half! They’ve sat with him during recess to play Uno or carried his backpack the days after his injury. He has some really good and kind-hearted friends! We are so grateful! ❤️❤️❤️

Funny enough, there were a lot of skeleton party favors with Halloween coming up so I snagged sticky hands at Target and added some treats along with a handful of friendship/kindness-themed temporary tattoos that I made with my Silhouette. And of course, I couldn’t help but make a punny treat tag! 😆

Foldover treat tags are the fastest and easiest way to take your favor bags up a notch! Even just using colored cardstock in your party color palette will make everything look visually cohesive.

Start by folding your treat tag in half (hot dog style), insert your filled treat bag (did you notice it’s just a ziploc snack bag?!), and then staple along the tag’s bottom edge, and you’re done!

Temporary tattoos are another way to personalize your party and one of my favorite ways to use my Silhouette CAMEO machine. I found some really cute designs on the Silhouette Design Store and converted cut file types into “print & cut” file types. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial if you want to know how to do that.

Wanna know a secret? I dream about being a cookie maker so if I have any opportunity to practice my icing skills, I will make it happen! So, with the help of Betty Crocker (Shhh! This is my shortcut method to making sugar cookies in a jiffy), I made broken bone cookies using a regular dog bone cookie cutter and creating the snap with the jagged edge of the ghost cookie cutter. Clever clever, yeah?

My go-to royal icing recipe is here. I make mine with meringue powder because it’s so much quicker and less messy. If you bake a batch of cutout sugar cookies from the Betty Crocker mix, I suggest halving the royal icing recipe.

In addition to enjoying yummy ice cream, I had planned some games for the kids to play one-handed. Kind of like those “Minute to Win It!” games. But #mombrain! The kids were having such a good time playing and running around the park that it completely slipped my mind.

In case you need game ideas, the two I had planned were:

  • Stacking Pennies – each kid had to stack 25 pennies with only one hand and the first one to complete his/her stack wins!
  • Mummies – in teams of two, one kid wrapped the other kid with toilet paper, like a mummy, and yup, you guessed it…with one hand only!

Even though we didn’t end up playing the games, the little get-together was a fun and casual way to celebrate! BUT! I’m really hoping we don’t have to throw another “cast-is-coming-off” party ever again! #fingerscrossed #toestoo
