Today is the day! It’s time to kick off the Silhouette Design Store Mashup series on the blog! If you missed the reason behind this series, read this and hopefully it’ll get your creative juices flowing!

While it’s May Grey and usually June Gloom here in San Diego, I am desiring some sunshine! Maybe that was my inspiration for this bright and cheery card! Ironically, the two Silhouette Design Store designs featured are created by gals both named Amanda. So this is a Amanda vs Amanda card! Just kidding, there’s no competing here as both of their designs complement so well!

Speaking of Amanda, I got a chance to ask Amanda Arneill some fun questions! See below! In addition to being a Silhouette contributing artist, she loves sharing her experience and wealth of information as a master at hand lettering and modern calligraphy.

Alright, back to the card! The Silhouette Design Store designs used are:

In addition to mashing up SDS designs, I also wanted to share some unique card features and/or card-making techniques:

  • Shaker Card Hack – Using the clear shaker circle pouch from My Favorite Things has been a total shaker card gamechanger/hack. These 2in shaker circle pouches come in a pack of 10 for just $4. Worth it for the time saved!
  • Clear Stickers and Clear Sheets FTW – Amanda’s “There’s Always a Bright Side” design is so beautiful (don’t you wish you could letter like that?!) that I wanted to do more than print it on colored paper. I printed it on clear printable labels but also stuck it on a plastic sheet so that it was a little more stiff and didn’t have a sticky back side. Clear plastic sheets (also known as acetate sheet) is a must have in a cardmaking/scrapbooking tool box. I’ve used it to hold together a mosaic heart or jack-o-‘lantern faces for treat toppers. It is also used for traditional shaker card windows like this retirement card I made last year.
  • Bedazzle! – In addition to using rhinestones and sequins inside the shaker pouch, I added a few on the outside so pull together a cohesive look. I think they frame the sentiment very nicely!

And there you have it! The first SDS Mashup card featuring two designs that almost look like they’re supposed to go together! 🙂
