14 days. 14 freakin’ long days my family and I have been #ShelteringInPlace and I’m starting to forget what day it is. I mean, does it really matter?! It sounds like this will be our new norm for at least another month. So! If you’re in the same boat as me (but six feet away, right? 😂 Yup, I’m starting to go bonkers), here’s a round up of #StayHome activities to do with your kiddos.
Lego Letters
My preschooler is loving this fun way to recognize alphabet letters. It’s also great for enhancing fine motor skills! Simply outline Lego pieces on a baseplate (link) and then fill in and build up with more Legos.
Road Trip (Around Town) Bingo
I don’t know about you but walking around the neighborhood is not cutting it anymore and I think my kids feel the same. So we will for sure be playing this “road trip” version of Bingo this week, or probably every week! If you have a Silhouette Cameo, you can make yours scratchable by using Printable Scratch-off Sticker Sheets (link). Here’s a blog post I wrote a couple years ago that you might find helpful.
Paper Alpha Blocks
Sure, school’s closed but that doesn’t mean learning has to stop. I made these colorblock alpha blocks with the help of my Silhouette Cameo for the CutCardStock blog last year. But here’s a super easy and fast way you can do this activity with your kids. Simply get your hands on white favor boxes (link) and write letters on them with colorful markers.
Mosaic Chalk Art
I’ve seen a ton of families/kids making these beautiful mosaic chalk art and there’s a reason why…it is SUPER easy and kinda therapeutic! The only supplies you need and you might already have are: masking or painter’s tape (link) and sidewalk chalk (link). Start with a simple shape, like a rectangle or heart, with the tape. Then, roll out long strips of masking tape to create various mosaic shapes. Make some large, some small, whatever you want! After you color in sidewalk chalk, I suggest rubbing in the chalk dust to fully cover each inner piece. Lastly, pull off the tape and voila!
Fringe Gift Tags
I imagine a lot of birthday parties or celebrations have been put on hold but we can still make it special with fringe gift tags. This simple activity is great for little hands practicing cutting with scissors and a resourceful way to use up colored paper scraps! After you’ve cut strips of paper, glue them in a layered manner onto diecut gift tags (link). The best craft glue (it’s the only one I use!) is Tombow Mini Liquid Glue (link) because it has a pen tip so the glue doesn’t get too messy.
Painted Monster Rocks
If you’re doing a record number of nature walks because #cabinfever, have the kids pick up some rocks and bring them home to paint. Once dried, add the fun stuff like googly eyes (link) and use colored markers/Sharpies for mouths/fangs/eyelashes. These Monster Rocks hold little signs sharing positive messages. This printable is a #freebie on my site and can be downloaded here.
DIY Handwriting Stamps
If you have the Silhouette Mint Custom Stamp Maker (link), this is a really fun and quick project. Bonus: this project is great for children learning the alphabet, practicing their handwriting, or beginning to read! Now that’s a good project, right? I suggest stamping on thick cardstock so that it’s a little more durable than copy paper. Hop onto Silhouette 101’s blog and read up on the tutorial!
I hope these #StayHome activities make way into your homeschooling but most importantly, I hope you are all staying safe and healthy! 💗💗💗
