My crafting journey started with paper and scissors so with this DIY project, I went back to my roots and made paper Christmas stockings for my family and Oma and Opa who will be visiting us for the holidays.

I wanted to brighten this year’s holiday decor with colorful and vibrant pieces and thought these paper stockings complemented well with the DIY painted ornaments I made earlier this month. The best part is…these paper stockings are actually functional, meaning you can put stocking stuffers in them! I mean, as long as you’re not putting something super heavy in them!

Everything is made out of paper except for the stitching of the stocking because I needed it to be durable/usable. You can’t tell but the white base of the stocking was cut out of patterned scrapbook paper that I no longer loved (#paperhoarder) and I flipped it over to use the white side of the scrapbook paper. So smart, right? I get a good idea once in awhile, HA!

Various Silhouette Design Store designs were used to create the patterns on the stockings and they are listed below:

Three of the stockings are a nod to the individual’s personality. I had started this project with no intentional to over-personalize them but when I came across the cat shape, I couldn’t help but use that for my daughter who loves “meow meow’s”. The “plus sign” is actually suppose to represent a medical symbol for my mother-in-law who works at a hospital. And lastly, the chevron patterned stocking is for me because it completely reminded me of the craziest craft idea I had this year. I seriously laughed when I saw this design and knew I had to use it. And just like the herringbone vinyl project, the chevron pattern was a lot of work to put on the paper stocking. Oh the irony!

I love adding the paper tassels to the stockings because it added some dimension and good ‘ol fun! Each stocking is personalized with the person’s first name initial on the snowflake tag.

Now the fun begins with adding goodies in them! I will add stickers to my kids’ stockings but would love to know…what are some of your favorite stocking stuffers?
